the two last tracks on Floating Points’s latest album, Cascade. they form a continuous mix, so I always talk about them as one.

listening to Tilt Shift, I see visions of traffic in a city at night. streaks of light travelling along the streets, illuminated by lanterns and buildings around.

- as the sound distorts, the light streaks become more smudged, shifted.

- it’s as if the whole city is responding to a call to dance with the track.

then the beat ends, and you find yourself standing on a bridge crossing a river.

- contemplating life, how beautiful and full of life the city can seem at night.

- looking at the calming waves, listening to the sound of the water. far from the city centre, just pondering, taking a pause…

- as the music slowly fades away.

I imagine it would be fun to make a music video from at-night Tokyo footage for these two tracks.

it honestly saddens me to know most people will never hear these. they were barely promoted, with no music videos to speak of… honestly, I’m not even sure they fit the album they were born into.
